which provides a comprehensive guide to the ethics of peer review.
Reviewers
Reviews of very rare and unusual diseases are discouraged; subject matter should be sufficiently broad to have instructional and practical value for readers. Reviewers should note if authors have respected the format and restrictions of this category as stated in the Instructions for Authors. As part of its ongoing development, the International Journal of Humanities and Social Development Research is currently expanding its network of specialized reviewers. Reviewers should assess the importance of the subject matter, need for the review and probable interest to readers. If accepted as a reviewer, we will add you to our database and send you a copy of our reviewer guidelines. In your email please do advice on the specific subject and geographical areas for which you would be willing to review articles.
Blind Peer Review
IJHSDR uses double blind peer review, meaning that the identities of both reviewers and authors remain anonymous to each other.
Manuscripts Sent for Peer-Review
· Original Articles will typically be sent to at least 2 peer reviewers.
· Commentaries and Viewpoints will be sent to at least 1 peer reviewer.
Becoming a Peer Reviewer
To volunteer to be a peer reviewer, please send your resume/CV to our Editorial Office at info@ijhsdr.com, ijhsdr@gmail.com.
Reviewer Selection
Editors, frequently with the assistance of electronic databases of reviewers kept by their journal’s offices, choose reviewers whose expertise most closely matches the manuscript’s topic and invite them to review the paper. The editors also consider the number of manuscripts sent to a reviewer by their journal so as not to overburden any one expert. Editors are encouraged to consider a diversity when selecting from a pool of potential reviewers. Some journals encourage authors to suggest preferred reviewers and reviewers they would prefer to be excluded. Ideally, the reviewer selection process and the journal’s internal policies address the issue of potential bias by excluding reviewers from the same department or institution as that of the author(s) and by asking reviewers to disclose any potential conflict of interest. Reviewers may also be asked to decline the review if they have any personal or professional connection to the author(s) that may be perceived as a conflict of interest, they feel unqualified to do the review, or they cannot review in a timely manner. This “bias screening” at the point of reviewer selection may be incorporated into the forms in an online submission system, the email sent to request the review, or posted on the journal site as a policy.
Review Process
Peer reviewers should assess papers exclusively against the journal’s criteria for publication.
- The Editorial Office will immediately screen all manuscripts (main text without author(s) information) submitted for publication in International Journal of Humanities and Social Development Research. Those manuscripts which fail to reach the minimal technical requirements, aims and scope, scientific standards of the journal will not be send out for further review.
- If submitted manuscripts meet the Journal’s technical and scientific requirements the Editorial Office will assign external reviewers for these manuscripts.
- Reviewers should review the peer review policy of the Journal before revealing their reviewer role.
- Providing written, unbiased, constructive feedback in a timely manner on the scholarly merits and the scientific value of the work, together with the documented basis for the reviewer’s opinion
- Indicating whether the writing is clear, concise, and relevant and rating the work’s composition, scientific accuracy, originality, and interest to the journal’s readers
- Avoiding personal comments or criticism
- Reviewers should generally not communicate directly with the authors. All necessary information regarding the progress of the peer review can be obtained from the Editorial Office.
- All Reviewers are asked to declare any competing interests they may have in reviewing a manuscript.
- The IJHSDR follows a double-blinded process of peer review. The manuscript is reviewed anonymously by two external specialists in the field of humanities and social development studies. The names of reviewers will not be made available to authors; and names of authors will not be made available to reviewers.
- Pin point the strength and weakness of the article considering potential importance of the work in the context of present and future. If found unsuitable the paper should be declared as unacceptable for publication.
- Any reviewer who wants to pass a peer review invitation onto a colleague must contact the journal in the first instance.
- Manuscripts will be reviewed with due respect for authors’ and reviewers’ confidentiality. Our Editors and Reviewers have been instructed to not disclose information about manuscripts to anyone other than the authors and reviewers. Reviewers and Editors may not make copies of the manuscript for their files and will not share it with others, except with the author’s written permission. Reviewers should return or destroy copies of manuscripts after submitting reviews.
- Reviewers will be formally asked to review the assigned manuscripts by the Editor-in-chief and shall submit their review reports within two to three months of the submission deadline.
- Once reviewer reports have been received, authors are given 3 weeks to revise the manuscript.
- If on receiving the editorial decision concerning their manuscript authors are not satisfied they are invited to appeal to the Editorial Office. In cases in which this is considered appropriate a second opinion on the manuscript will be requested.
- The revised manuscript and approved by reviewers, will be considered for publication by Editorial Board Council. Editor-in-Chief is responsible for the final decision.
